INTRODUCTION
The Doctor of Philosopy in Clinical Pharmacy Programme is the highest academic degree programme in the field of clinical pharmacy offered in Malaysia. The programme aim to produce specialists in Clinical Pharmacy who will:
- Actively engage and lead in pharmaceutical care activities
- Participate in various fields of pharmaceutical care
- Provide manpower with high research skill in clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical care and further strengthen the current clinical pharmacy services.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The PhD in Clinical Pharmacy is offered as a three (3) year fulltime programme. The maximum duration candidature is 5 years. The programme is offered as a mixed-mode programme and consists of coursework and research. Students have to register and pass 38 units of coursework (theory and clerkship) in the first year of the programme. Students have to choose one clerkship, students are expected to develop skill in handling pharmaceutical care before embarking into research.
In the second and third year, students have to complete a research project in his/her field of specialty under the supervison of lecturers. The research contributes to 48 units of the total units. Each students is required to present 3 seminars, submit a thesis and pass a viva voce before being considered as completing his/her specialty. International students have to complete an internship and extership before taking clerkship.
Hospital Pharmacy Internship-A structured hospital pharmacy attachment.
Community Pharmacy Externship-A structured community pharmacy attachment.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
- M. Pharm Graduate with CGPA of ? 3.00 from Universiti Sains Malaysia or equivalent
- International student : TOEFL score: minimum of 550; or IELTS: minimum of band 6; or University Intensive English Course Level 4 (Min. Grade B)
- Malaysian: MUET: band 5
GRADUATION REQUIREMENT
Each students is required to accumulate 40 credit units and maintain a CGPA of 2.5 and above. Students should obtain grade C+ or better in all courses.
